The RF Strickland Co. – A Legacy of Community Since 1877

Rooted in History. Restored for Today.

Originally founded in 1877, The RF Strickland Co. has been a cornerstone of Concord, Georgia for generations. What began as a modest general store has evolved into a thoughtfully restored multi-use venue and mercantile—still serving the community more than a century later.

A large brick building with a lot of windows is sitting in the middle of a field.

Today, the historic RF Strickland building is home to two thriving experiences under one roof:

  • The Mercantile, a shop filled with handmade goods and local products
  • The Venue, a warm and versatile event space perfect for weddings, reunions, community meetings, and celebrations of all kinds

A Family Legacy

The Strickland name runs deep in Pike County. In the 1830s, Isaac Strickland was the first of his family to settle in the area then known as Hardhead—later renamed Concord. His son, R.F. Strickland, became a visionary entrepreneur. By the late 1800s, he and his brothers operated successful farming and mercantile businesses, managing over 300 tenant farms and 30,000 acres of land.

The current building—constructed in 1907—was the third to house the general store, company bank, and offices. It remained a vital part of Concord life until closing its books in 1992.
